Mike Krause and AES offer training to farmers and farming groups in financial planning and risk management. Some of these areas include: Succession planning, farm management and benchmarking, farm feasibility studies and business plan development.

Succession Planning

One of the biggest challenges to farming families is the issue of succession planning. AES has developed a unique method for conducting farmer family succession planning with a mixture of sensitively chaired family meetings, financial analysis of the ‘what if' questions, and an understanding of the need for successful management and land ownership transfers. AES can work with you and your accountant to achieve a successful succession plan.

Benchmarking

Do you want to improve the understanding of your farming business's financial strengths and weaknesses? AES has developed a management accounting method for developing key farm business benchmarks. Data has been collected from over 160 farms over 8 years, so there is a significant database to compare your farm’s performance (with the appropriate confidentiality). Please contact us for more information.

Feasibility studies

Does your farm have some major strategic decisions that need to be made, such as:

  • Additional land purchase
  • Comparing the financial performance of your livestock enterprise against cropping
  • Timing of machinery up-grade
  • Cost of production
  • Target profit and target prices

Contact AES, and with the use of P2P, a detailed analysis can be made of your strategic planning which will help you to make more informed decisions.

Business plan development

One of the essential ingredients to guide any business is a business plan. AES has developed business plans for a number of farming clients. Contact AES if you require additional information on developing a business plan or you wish to have a business plan developed with you for your business.

Plan to Profit (P2P)

P2P provides a very good grounding in management accounting as it relates to the farm business. Participants are encouraged to use their own farm data while learning to use P2P. This is a two-day workshop program where participants are taught the principles of sound farm management. Using their own data helps participants to understand the financial performance of their business. The sensitivities of ‘key performance indicators’ can be assessed to see the effect on the farm’s profitability.

Homework is encouraged between Day ss1 and Day 2, so that participants get the opportunity to use the P2P software in their own office. This helps to complete the learning cycle as ‘without experience there is no true learning’.
